Het is actief via de volgende segmenten: Automotive Technology, Decarbon Technologies, Material Services, Steel Europe en Marine Systems. Het segment Automotive Technology levert onderdelen en systemen voor de auto-industrie. Het segment Decarbon Technologies omvat componenten die gebruikt worden in zonne- en windturbines, belangen in de waterstof elektrolyse business, technologieën voor het kraken van ammoniak en het gebruik van groene chemicaliën, evenals technologieën voor de groene transformatie van de cementindustrie. Het segment Material Services distribueert een portfolio variërend van materialen en grondstoffen tot technische diensten en processen in Europa en Noord-Amerika. Het segment Steel Europe houdt zich bezig met activiteiten op het gebied van plat koolstofstaal, zoals materiaaloplossingen en afgewerkte onderdelen. Het Marine System segment produceert conventionele onderzeeërs, marineschepen en maritieme elektronica. Het bedrijf werd opgericht op 17 maart 1999 en heeft zijn hoofdkantoor in Essen, Duitsland.
